The Mace Group are providing pre-construction planning as part of Woking Borough Council's £70m Hoe Valley Scheme. Services being provided by Mace include project management, cost consulting and CDM consultancy.
Mace Sustain were appointed as CDM consultant on the project in March 2009, taking on the approach of establishing and maintaining a project specific design risk register which has identified how hazards could be eliminated or controlled by the team, whilst continually reviewing the design process for health and safety implications.
The Sustain team aim to ensure the best health and safety practice is present on site while making sure these demands do not over-burden the team. Hazards identified so far include ground contamination, sequencing of the major bridge and highway works, segregation of the public, working over and adjacent to water, the presence of asbestos in existing buildings to be demolished and the proposed access and maintenance strategy for the new community buildings.
This major project involves land remediation, new flood defences, major civil works including new roads, bridges, cycle ways and footpaths providing greater access to Woking Park for the local residents, as well as a new residential development in the vicinity of the Hoe Stream on a former tip site which is to be remediated.
