BG Reading BMOS Programme
it is clear that [the team] are very committed to providing a safe workplace and furthermore they have demonstrated that they can provide the right environment for people to work in ... the general level of housekeeping was so good, in comparison to other building sites ... we perhaps should consider using it to show what can be achieved if the correct environment is provided and reinforced... keep up the excellent work.

Information

In 2007 Mace Sustain began a Behavioural Management of Safety programme (BMOS) for the BG refurbishment at their client's Thames Valley Park corporate head office buildings in Reading.

Mace Sustain's behavioural safety specialists have provided training, monitoring and support for the BMOS programme during the refurbishment project and will continue to do so throughout 2008/9.

The refurbishment project will provide a modern workplace for an increasing number of staff. The TVP refurbishment includes a staff restaurant, coffee bar, fitness centre, an occupational health centre as well as the office accommodation within four buildings having a total gross internal floor area of approximately 27,500m².

Our behavioural safety consultants have provided training and support to the Mace project and their supply team on how to analyse safety-critical behaviours, provide feedback and encourage safe working practices for continuous improvement.

We have successfully implemented BMOS programmes across a wide range of projects in cooperation with our supply chain and with the support of our clients including BG-Group, BAA, Crossrail, British Land and Royal Bank of Scotland to:

  • Create a process for workforce engagement promoting involvement from all levels in health and safety to make contributions and recommendations towards continuous improvement
  • Improve communication between management and the workforce addressing root causes and working towards permanent solutions to removing unsafe practices
  • Raising general awareness to health and safety and providing training and interpersonal skills to proactively manage health and safety at all levels
  • Observe, measure and analyse behavioural data, proactively manage leading indicators of unsafe practices and deal with issues before an accident happens

MLogic provided integrated preliminaries and logistics offer fixed with the construction management agreement.
