Information
Mace Sustain has secured a 20 month project funded by the London Development Agency and the European Social Fund to deliver a Pan London project supporting unemployed and economically inactive people with a range of measures aimed at moving them towards, and into, employment. This includes the provision of Introduction to Construction qualifications.
Mace has long realised that our projects have the power to transform lives as well as spaces and social inclusion programmes are an increasingly key element to the way we deliver. Building and Learning Training (BuiLT) is part of our approach to solving a key issue facing the construction sector: the need to recruit more than 70,000 additional workers each year just to replace those retiring. There are also crucial skills shortages in most trades and at managerial and supervisory levels so the programme is both timely and strategically beneficial for all involved.
BuiLT is being funded through the LDA and ESF and in partnership with Construction Web to provide a range of training and guidance. These public funding streams enable the project to offer all training free.
The project will provide:
- 420 starters all with relevant information, advice and guidance
- 42 work placements
- Qualifications - 360 introduction to construction employment qualifications (20 hours non-accredited) plus ongoing mentoring
- 42 CSCS cards
- 40 referrals to further education and/or training
- 90 people into employment or self-employment
- 105 people in employment or self-employment 6 months after leaving the project
- The project is restricted to unemployed and economically inactive men and women. Provision will be tailored and timed to ensure accessibility and suitability to individuals needs.
