Information
Mace has had a valuable long term framework agreement to provide a diverse variety of services to GMPTE which runs Manchester's public transport system.
Mace began its involvement with GMPTE by providing leadership and support to the client on its expansion of Manchester's light rail scheme and associated PPP development. Mace provided the project executive (deputy project director/programme manager) for the three year procurement phase of the project which was geared to awarding a PPP contract for the Phase 3 extension to the Metrolink light rail network and will provide three new extensions from Manchester to Oldham and Rochdale, Ashton-under-Lyme and Manchester Airport. The intention is to award a 25 year concession for the design, construction operation and maintenance of the system.
Mace had a number of other roles on the project including:
- Mace provided strategic support as a member of the project steering group that provided an oversight role for the project team
- The property acquisition steering group was tasked with purchasing approximately 800 properties at a cost of around £40m in order to allow the construction of the scheme to go ahead
- Mace provided additional project management and consultancy support to the team on issues such as procurement routes and risk management
Mace has also provided project management on infrastructure appointments covering quality bus corridor projects, real time passenger information systems and the creation of park and ride facilties as GMPTE's range of services is improved and expanded. The group's health and safety consultancy business Mace Sustain has also advised on projects and provided CDM services.
- The company's relationship with the project executive was described by the client as 'fantastic' with a high level of confidence allowing the client to delegate his duties as he required
- Mace staff integrated very well into the GMPTE organisation
