Jobs and training opportunities for Heathrow communities
Mace Sustain continues their Social Inclusion Programme at Heathrow following their success at the Terminal 5 Project. Mace Sustain supported the Heathrow Employment Forum and managed a programme to create hundreds of jobs and training opportunities going to local people from mainly hard to reach groups.
Established in September 2004 the Social Inclusion Programme has run along side one of Europe's most successful construction projects which is due for completion in March 2008.
The programme has offered training and employment opportunities to workers with barriers to employment. It has concentrated on providing entry level post employment qualifications before supporting workers to up skill to an NVQ level 2 whilst in employment.
The project, run by our workplace co-ordinator, has helped almost 300 hundred local residents to access jobs and training opportunities at Heathrow in the last 3 years. This has made it one of the most successful projects of its kind in London.
Partners in success
Mace Sustain in partnership with BAA are building on past success by rolling it out the Routes to Work Project to the rest of their supply chain working on Heathrow's expansion plans.
The partnership funded by BAA and Heathrow City Partnership is now delivering Phase II of the local labour strategy, targeting skills and vocational training activity with vulnerable client groups. A skills package with focus on BAMEs, refugees, single parents and unemployed young people.
The project will provide training initiatives for the unemployed or those in work but needing to upgrade skills in order to progress or remain employable. Its target areas will are focused on specific wards in Ealing, Hillingdon and Hounslow.
