Expanding capacity
Mace's long term relationship with client BAA is at the heart of our work on the prestigious new fifth terminal at London's Heathrow Airport.
The Richard Rogers Partnership designed terminal building is part of the 260 hectare Terminal 5 development which will increase capacity at Heathrow Airport by 30 million passengers per annum. The terminal building is 400m long by 160m wide with a wide span roof creating a shell around the inner structure. The interior comprises a state of the art blend of improved passenger flow, high tech check-in facilities and modern retail.
The Mace team has met its milestones throughout the project and our staff have won awards for innovations that they have brought to the project, including new snagging tools, quality of work initiatives and health and safety standards.
The new terminal was officially opened by Queen Elisabeth II on 14th of March 2008 and opened to the public on the 27th March.
Mace won a Structural Steel Design Award 2008 for its work on the terminal building.
